Unearth a Haus

A continuation of 100 Days V.II from summer 2021 (left image), Unearth a Haus (right image) explores a bodily relationship between a fabric haus facade buried in sand that is equal in weight to the artist, and the tension of the artist's effort to expose it. The antique apple crate is sourced from a barn that was flattened in the 2020 Iowa derecho.

In the performance, the artist slowly pulls the fabric out of the sand, scooping wet handfuls out of the box in order to liberate the haus. The large sheet of fabric is wrapped around different parts of the artist's body as she works against the resistance of the sand. It is a slow process due to how delicate the fabric in the box is.

Duration: 20 minutes

The performance concluded in reference to the 100 Days V.II film, with the Haus laid out on the ground of the gallery, and the artist sitting within it.
